Welcome to MWC's Wrestler of the Week where every Friday we feature a wrestler from the past or present using a random generator and talk about their career and other information! This week we got The Man, The Myth, and The Legend himself; Kendo Nagasaki! Real Name: Peter Thornley Birthday: October 19,1946 From: Staffordshire,England,UK Height: 6'2'' Weight: 240 lbs Debut: November 1964 Retired: 2015 Website: kendonagasaki.org Twitter: @KendoMystic Facebook: Kendo Nagasaki Ring Names: Kendo Nagasaki Mr. Guillotine Notable Titles: WWA World Heavyweight Championship ASW British Heavyweight Champion Stampede North American Heavyweight Champion LDN Tag-Team Champion Promotions Wrestled: Real Japan Pro Wrestling Stampede Wrestling LDN Wrestling All-Star Wrestling Peter Thornley or better known as Kendo Nagasaki is a well known wrestling legend in the UK and is considered as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time from UK! Thornley portrayed a Japanese samurai gimmick known as "Kendo Nagasaki" and he pretty much live this gimmick even until today! Nagasaki has been wrestling for over 6 decades now! He started out in 1964 on small promotions around UK, it was until in 1971 where Nagasaki joined iTV's World of Sport where he really gained massive popularity in the wrestling business. Throughout the years he was able to face other great UK legends and wrestlers like Big Daddy,Steven Regal,Drew McDonald, and Giant Haystacks. Nagasaki didn't only found success on UK but also on other countries like Japan and Canada. One of his most notable runs outside the UK was with Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling where he was a former Stampede North American Heavyweight Champion. He was unmasked three times throughout his career. First was in a match against Billy Howes where his mask was accidentally removed due to the heat of the action! Nagasaki, quickly ran back to the locker room after the match with both of his hands covering his face. The second unmasking was when they officially unmasked Nagasaki in a "ceremony." For a few years he wrestled without the mask but people seem to loss interest in him so he put it back on. And lastly in a match against Big Daddy, Nagasaki's mask was removed by the British giant and his face was for all to see during the whole match! Nagasaki has since then put the mask back on again and will likely never remove it ever again. The man is really living his gimmick and I respect him for that! Numerous "interviews" were done with Kendo Nagasaki but it is his manager and interpreter; Atlanthis Chronos Goth who is doing all the talking. Nagasaki was featured in a documentary about the history of British Wrestling called "When Wrestling Was Golden: Grapples,Grunts, and Grannies." It is a must watch, especially if you're a British wrestling fan or just a wrestling fan in general! Anyways Nagasaki's last recorded match so far was in 2015. Wikipedia listed him as retired but other wrestling websites still has him as active or semi-retired so we will have to see if The Legendary; Kendo Nagasaki will ever step back in to the ring once again and continue his mythical legacy in the world of pro wrestling! |
