The MWC Hall of Fame welcomes former NWA Women's Champion: Sue Green into the Class of 2017! Real Name: Susan Tex Green Height: 6'1'' Weight: 154 lbs From: Alice,Texas Birthday: August 13,1953 Trained by: Joe Blanchard Debut: 1969 Retired: 2009 Ring Name: Sue Green Notable Titles Held: NWA World Women's Championship NWA Texas Women's Championship (4x) NWA Women's World Tag-Team Championship PGWA Championship (4x) WCPW Ladies Championship Other Accomplishments/Awards: CAC Honoree (1994) NWA Hall of Fame (2011) Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame (2017) PWI Girl Wrestler of the Year (1976) Ever since she was young, Sue Green is a huge wrestling fan thanks to her dad taking her to local shows promoted by Joe Blanchard, father of Tully! Later on Joe would train Sue to become a pro wrestler and she had her debut match when she was only 15 years old!
During her high school Sue already had 40 pro wrestling matches! She later then worked for the NWA and even toured for countries like Vietname and Hong Kong. Around the early 70's she formed a tag-team with Sandy Parker and they won the NWA Women's World Tag-Team Championships. In 1972 New York legalized women's wrestling and Sue made history when she participated in the second ever women's match at Madison Square Garden! The same year she won the women's tag-team tournament at NWA's Superbowl of Wrestling event with Lily Thomas. She also wrestled for the WWF and Leroy McGuirk's Mid-South promotion during the 70's. In 1975 Sue defeated The Fabulous Moolah for the NWA World Women's Championship! At the time this belt was the epitome of women's wrestling, so her win against a big name like Moolah was a big deal! Around 1979 she was sidelined due to injury, she wouldn't return to in-ring action until in 1982. During the 90's Sue mainly competed for Professional Girl Wrestling Assocation (PGWA) where she won the women's title of the company four times! Also in the 90's, she wrestled for different Joshi promotions in Japan. Sue continued wrestling until in 2009 where she finally decided to retire from in-ring competition. She now mainly works as a trainer in Columbia,South Carolina. In my opinion Sue Green is the greatest women's wrestler to come from the state of Texas! I always thought she is underrated whenever the talk of great women's wrestlers come to mind. Sue has proved that you can have the looks and be talented at the same time! A true pioneer in women's wrestling that doesn't get enough credit. |
