One of the pioneers for all midget wrestlers today is none other than Sky Low Low.
Sky Low Low is considered by many as the greatest midget wrestler of all time! Born as Marcel Gauthier in Montreal, he took on the name of "Sky Low Low" when he debuted in the squared circle in the early 1940's. During his early runs he mainly competed for his home country of Canada and was an attraction thanks to his good wrestling skills despite being only a 3 footer guy. In 1949 Sky became the inaugural NWA World Midget's Champion where he won a 30-Man tournament held in Paris France. There is no exact number on how long his reign was but many have said that it was lengthy. He vacated the title around the 50's and was held by Little Beaver later on. Sky also had other fun gimmicks he would pull off to entertain the crowd such as standing on his head without the help of his hands and challenging other midget wrestlers on 2 out of 3 falls matches for $100! Perhaps the biggest match of Sky Low Low's career was competing against Little Beaver in a match for Queen Elizabeth II and King Farouk of Egypt! His long time and greatest rival was Farmer Brooks, he also had a tag-team run with his good friend: Fuzzy Cupid. In the latter part of his career, Sky wrestled and made appearances for the WWF. He even appeared in the infamous wedding of Uncle Elmer as a ring bearer if anyone remembers that! He wasn't just a wrestler but a mentor to the likes of Little Beaver,Lord Littlebrook, and Little Tokyo. Sky wrestled for a total of 5 decades across the world and is a respected legend by many of his peers! He sadly passed away in 1998 and was posthumously inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002. If it wasn't for Sky Low Low guys like Hornswoggle,El Torito,Mascarita Sagrada, and more wouldn't even be in the pro wrestling scene today! A true trail blazer and pioneer for many. |
