The duo of Ricky & Robert were formed by Jerry Lawler in his Memphis wrestling territory. They were first feuding with teams like The Galaxians,Bruise Brothers, and The Poffos (Randy & Lanny) before heading to Mid-South Wrestling where they found their rise to superstardom. At Mid-South, RnR Express began feuding with The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) and their manager Jim Cornette. Not only the two teams had memorable matches over the years but it is the longest feud ever in wrestling and it was so great in fact that they were having matches together for three decades! Both teams of the Express set the bar for tag-team wrestling in America. Also around this time in the 80's, Rock N' Roll Express started to become one of the most popular wrestlers all over the world and holding championship gold wherever they go! They have held the NWA World Tag-Team Championships a total of 7 times. How popular were The Rock N' Roll Express? Well as Jim Cornette said, they were Justin Bieber before Justin Bieber was even alive! They were Hulk Hogan levels of overness during that time and really what's not to love? They got the looks and wrestling abilities that the fans adored! The female ones especially. Around the 90's Ricky & Robert found themselves to be the main eventers for Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling. They were successful individually but even more so as a tag-team. They held the SMW World Tag-Team Championships a record 10 times! This same year despite having a much more notable run in the territories, The Rock N'Roll Express were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and deservingly so. To this day the legendary team still wrestles occassionally on various indie promotions and Ricky is training future wrestlers at his school. These two deserve all the recognition they get for creating tag-team wrestling an art form! |
