Welcome to MWC's new blog series called "Masto's 2 Cents" where I, Super Mastodon will be sharing my thoughts and opinions about various wrestling news, happenings,or events whether it's in the past or present. For the first edition I will be talking about the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2016. The class was recently leaked online and I will give you my thoughts on all of the inductees this year. Feel free to leave your own thoughts & opinions in the comments below as well! Sting The headliner for this year's Hall of Fame is none other than "The Icon" himself; Sting. The 13-time World Champion has definitely made a name for himself without WWE's help. In his 30 year career on professional wrestling, Sting has held a total of 25 championships. He is the first ever man to be inducted in both WWE & TNA Hall of Fame. Sting definitely deserves to be inducted after all his years of hardwork for the fans! Now who will induct Sting? I really hope it would be Ric Flair. They had one helluva feud over the years and Sting even told on Flair's podcast that he wants The Nature Boy himself to induct him! The Fabulous Freebirds Before the nWo,DX,and The Four Horsemen, there was first The Fabulous Freebirds! The team of Michael "P.S." Hayes,Buddy Roberts, and Terry Gordy. The Freebirds have competed all over the world but it was in Dallas where they attained fame by feuding with their arch-rivals; The Von Erichs. Over the years in WCCW, The Freebirds & The Von Erichs had great matches and have made one of the greatest rivalries of all time in wrestling's history! The Freebirds were an originator and individually they are all great wrestlers. They have been definitely overdue to be inducted in the WWE HOF and I'm glad they will finally make it, and it fits more because it's in Dallas! The Freebirds have held a total of 10 tag-team championships combined in NWA,WCCW,and WCW. If Jimmy Garvin will also be a part of The Freebirds' induction then I certainly wouldn't mind that. As for the person who will induct them I think it would be fitting if it will be Kevin Von Erich. Him & his brothers had long history against The Freebirds so that would just be perfect. John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) JBL has been with the WWE since 1995 and has always been loyal to the company ever since! He is far from being the greatest commentator, but was a great wrestler! He is also one of those people who can play different gimmicks well! He was first known as Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, a rough rugged cowboy managed by Zeb Colter. He then joined Barry Windham as 1/2 of The New Blackjacks, and then became simply as Bradshaw as 1/2 of APA with Farooq (Ron SImmons.) And on 2004 JBL was once again re-packaged as the rich man gimmick we all know and loved to hate today! He is an underrated talker in the mic and certainly had one of the most devastating finishers ever; Clothesline from Hell! JBL going to the Hall of Fame, in his hometown of Texas couldn't just make it any better! Also obviously it should be Ron Simmons to induct him. He inducted Ron, now it's Ron's turn to do the favor for his best friend. Jacqueline I didn't saw this one coming but I'm happy that Dallas,Texas native; Jacqueline will take her spot in the WWE HOF! Jacqueline has been wrestling for such a long time now and is certainly a well respected veteran by her peers. She started out small in various territories in Texas until she was recruited by USWA in 1991 and then her career took off! She has also made history by becoming the first ever African-American Women's Champion! Jacqueline didn't only wrestle but she was also a manager, trainer, and road agent. Some people think that Luna Vachon or Chyna should be inducted before her but honestly I don't mind Jacqueline making it to the Class of 2016. First off we already got two late wrestlers that are going to be inducted this year; Buddy Roberts & Terry Gordy. As for Chyna, we all know she's not gonna be making any appearances with WWE any time soon! Now I'm not really sure on who should induct her. Maybe Trish Stratus or Jazz? Anyways congratulations Jacqueline! Charles Wright Charles Wright was another shocker for me. You may know him by many names; Kama Mustafa,Papa Shango, and of course The Godfather! Now Charles Wright is another one of those men who can play gimmicks he is given well, whether they are good or bad. He was first Kama and later on known as Kama Mustafa and then became a voodoo expert; Papa Shango, and then on 1998 he became the lovable pimp that is; The Godfather! Besides playing gimmicks well, Wright is also a decent wrestler! He's far from the best, but he certainly go toe-to-toe with other much talented wrestlers. Two of his gimmicks: The Godfather & Papa Shango are engraved in all wrestling fans' minds and he has also partake in multiple memorable moments over the years! I seriously hope instead of being escorted by WWE Divas, he will come out with the HO Train! Also for his inductor, the only one I could think of is Goldust because of there feud for the IC Title back then. Regis Philbin So for the final inductee we got; Regis Philbin. Now I don't really consider the Celebrity Wing to be a part of the WWE Hall of Fame itself because it's nothing more than a publicity stunt. Philbin's only major appearance in WWE was on WrestleMania VII wherein he hosted the show and was also a commentator for the main event; Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter (but I guess WWE won't be mentioning that now huh?) Anyways I just don't really care about the Celebrity Wing any more. I guess Philbin isn't bad, I don't know much about him other than he's a talk show host but he's certainly still a much better inductee than Drew Carey! I still stand in the fact that Drew Carey is the worst inductee in the HOF! Now all of the inductees mentioned above with the exception of Sting aren't 100% confirmed yet. We still haven't heard about WWE's side of things so we will definitely see if all of these inductees for 2016 are official. Overall I don't mind the Class of 2016 if this is what's it's going to be. It's far from being the best class but it's certainly decent for what it is! Thanks for reading. Source: whatculture.com |
